A Trip to Town

So I know that I call Rexburg, Idaho home right now and that doesn’t really give me much room to talk but I still consider myself a city girl and today we went to the “City” with my Grandparents.

A little background on where my Grandparents live. First off the town they live in is called Eyebrow, Saskatchewan. That in itself should tell you the size thereof is such that if you blink you may miss it. Also, in this town my grandparents are the young folk. Don’t get me wrong they are not that old, in their late 60’s and early 70’s, but that doesn’t make for a very youthful community.
When I finally got out of bed today I awoke to the promise of a trip to the City of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, yes these are real places. Upon arriving in the “City” it wasn’t long before I realized there was not much more to do there than there would have been in Eyebrow. Our first stop was the local Walmart, the main shopping center in Moose Jaw. Living in Rexburg, I know how to entertain myself in a Walmart store and even found some good deals, if I had had any money.

After our exciting adventures at Walmart we continued our shopping excursion at the local mall, primarily the Canadian specialty store Zellers (a lower class version of Kmart, to translate into American for some of you). My pocket book being completely empty hampered this trip but my Grandma made out pretty well on the boxing week sales. (Please see below for a definition of Boxing Day if needed)

To top off the day we went to a local restaurant, Nick’s place. The food wasn’t bad but it one look around determined that myself and my three youngest siblings were the only people under 45 in the place. I hadn’t really believed my cousin when she said there was no one her age that living in Moose Jaw, she lives there with her husband, but after my trip to the “City” I am beginning to see what she means.Overall today I came to a firmer determination that I do not want to live in Rexburg any longer than I have too and my internship in Florida is looking like a necessary move to help me recover from what I have experienced.

Also, Canada is freaking cold! And today was only -10oC (14oF).

Definitions and Side Notes:
Boxing Day: (In parts of British Commonwealth) a public holiday celebrated on the first day (strictly, the first weekday) after Christmas Day.
Origin – mid 19th century: from the custom of giving tradespeople a Christmas box on this day.
Now – A major shopping experience (i.e. Canada’s Black Friday)

Pricing in Canada: is outrageous. Today at Walmart I was looking at the sales on the Christmas merchandise and found the Christmas lights I had bought in November on sale. Naturally I checked the pricing and found that I still paid around a dollar less at regular price than what they were asking for today at half price.
Regular Price in Canada – $6.96
½ Price in Canada - $3.48
Regular Price in USA - $2.50

"freaking cold" my eye! It was -12oF here this week. I don't wanna hear about your cushy 14oF. Moose Jaw looks like a good place to visit... maybe for a honeymoon??? (ha.ha. if I marry someone ugly and want to hide our relationship from the public...)
